Hashtag Life sent writer Rebecca Gaddis, author of Ambhassa, to review the luxury villas at CeBlue Beach Resort in Anguilla, for the ultimate 5* hotel experience within the privacy of villa residences in the Caribbean.
Perched high above Crocus Bay in Anguilla is a fairly new development of luxury villas called CeBlue Villas & Beach Resort. Built with the intention of giving the guest the privacy of their own luxury villa with all of the amenities of a 5-star hotel – a concept that I love. I recently had the pleasure of staying at CeBlue, something I was very much looking forward to as I’d been hearing some good buzz around the property
First off, the destination couldn’t be any more stunning. I’ve traveled to Anguilla many times and each visit is just as magical as the last. Anguilla is a tiny British owned island (about 16 miles long) in the northern Caribbean. As tiny as it might be, it packs a punch and has 33 of some of the most beautiful and mostly secluded beaches I’ve ever seen. Anguilla is much different from its neighboring islands like St. Barth’s and St. Martin. With the exception of reggae legend Bankie Banx, there isn’t a big nightlife scene here – the name of the game here is to unwind in a quiet and beautiful setting.
Upon arriving to Ceblue, it’s hard to miss the views of Crocus Bay which you have a front row seat to from your expansive private terrace high up on the hill. I was warmly welcomed at the reception desk and immediately given the lay of the land. Below the eight villas, you have the restaurant/bar, gym, game room and spa – what more could you as for? We then took the private golf cart up a winding road lined with tropical flowers and arrived at our villa, nestled back in seclusion.
The feel of the villa is very open and outdoors – as you enter you go straight onto the terrace which has lounge chairs, sofas, and my favorite part, our own private pool. We had three bedrooms on the top level each with their own entrance from the terrace, which is great for more privacy. Also on the top level is a full kitchen and dining room area. The modern kitchen is fully functional including all major appliances (fridge, oven, stove, microwave) as well as plates, glasses and utensils. If you wanted to prepare a meal in the comfort of the villa, you have everything you need. What I loved most about the dining area was the folding glass doors all around it – you could either keep them closed, or open them completely for an open-air, out-door dining experience. Then lastly, a staircase down to the lower level led to another patio and TV/game room. The bedrooms are cozy and elegant – a modern, simplistic and sleek design throughout. The adjoining bathroom was one of my favorite features, with beautiful stone tiles, rainwater spa shower and giant bathtub to relax in at the end of the day.
As I already mentioned, CeBlue Villas is supposed to give you the feel of your own private villa, but with all the amenities of a hotel, which is a really great feature. Each morning I would wake up to the stunning views of Crocus Bay, and then order a breakfast of fresh fruit, coffee and pastries which was delivered to our villa and set up for us. I loved the ability to be able to order food from room service and enjoy it in the privacy of our villa. It really came in handy one evening when we were just too exhausted to venture out for dinner, so we ordered a delicious homemade brick oven pizza and bottle of wine from the CeBlue restaurant, and enjoyed it on our private terrace watching the sunset. The restaurant is also lovely with a lively scene, live music on some nights and more gorgeous views of the bay. It was nice to come back after a day at the beach and enjoy a cool beverage at the bar and chat with the friendly staff.
Another great feature of CeBlue is the location. Crocus Bay is beautiful, quiet, and has a lovely restaurant right on the beach called Da Vida. An absolute must-do when going to Crocus Bay is to find Calvin, one of the sweetest locals I’ve ever met, and have him motor you over to Little Bay – one bay over from Crocus. A quick 10-minute boat ride and voila, you arrive to a perfectly secluded private beach surrounded by beautiful cliffs. Bring a cooler with food and drinks and snorkeling gear (CeBlue provides) and make an afternoon out of it – an experience you won’t forget.
CeBlue Villas in Anguilla is perfect for those looking to have a private and quiet getaway to enjoy the beautiful surroundings and the people you are with. Perfect for big groups or families, the space is versatile for almost any type of group. You have the perks of privacy and an escape from a busy hotel setting with all the amenities that a hotel or resort might offer. I think this type of accommodation will only become more popular as more and more people seek these types of vacations. Truly a great experience!
