Transform Your Face With Forma

Forma by InMode is a well-known radio frequency tightening treatment that has been around for years, and there is a good reason it is the celebrity preferred treatment for skin tightening.

Hashtag Life visited the Dr David Jack Clinic on Harley Street to try Forma by InMode to see exactly how this device can improve facial contouring, and give the tighter and lifted look that we all crave.

It has been a while since my last InMode treatment. To be honest, my face needed a serious pick-me-up ahead of the Summer. I was so excited to hear about Forma by InMode. InMode is the company responsible for Morpheus8, Evoke, Evolve, and their original hero device, Fractura. Forma has been around for many years, but I was suprised to learn that it has been loved for years by many celebrities for achieving that red-carpet ‘pull’ without the need for major face-lifting surgery. I needed to find out for myself!

About Dr David Jack

My research on Forma treatments in London led me to the Dr David Jack Clinic at 98 Harley Street.

Dr Jack is a highly trained Plastic Surgeon, with sub-specialities including the treatment of burns, cleft palates and emergency wounds to name a few. As I browsed through his work I came across his Instagram page.  Packed with short reels and videos on a variety of aesthetic medicine topics, teaching you the basics of  different treatments. It has been fascinating to learn from an expert, one that is used to seeing patients go under the knife, yet can also work with injectibles and non-surgical devices.

Dr Jack is an Ambassador for InMode in the UK, so he knows a lot about the entire suite of devices. I highly recommend that you follow him on Instagram, as well as pay him a visit at the Clinic!

Visiting Dr David Jack Clinic

At my Forma appointment, I had the pleasure of meeting with Izabela Pawlitka, Aesthetic Therapist, at the Dr David Jack Clinic.

Izabela is highly qualified, and has built up a loyal clientele during her 20 years in the beauty industry, Her experience includes working at Grace in Belgravia, and over the past 7 years working with Dr David Jack on Harley Street. She is also a trainer for InMode machines.

Izabela is responsible for looking after Dr Jack’s clients who want face and body solutions sans injections. You can book treatments such as Morpheus8 (up to 1mm), Lumecca IPL for hair removal, as well as facials involving mesotherapy, dermaplaning, chemical peels, derma roller or microneedling and so many more options.

I knew I would be in good hands.

What Is Forma?

Forma is a radio frequency and thermal energy device that stimulates the body’s natural ability to renew itself.

Forma was developed based on the clinical success of InMode’s proprietary A.C.E. (Acquire, Control, Extend) technology. This technology uses radio frequency energy to target deep layers of the skin, with no area being under or over treated. This means that through the emission of thermal energy, little wounds will occur under the skin’s surface, causing our body to trigger the creation of more collagen in that area. The healing process starts immediately, and rejuvenates the underlying tissue. The more collagen created the more you will see a lifted and tightened contouring on the treated area.

Forma can treat a number of areas, where there is laxity or loss of volume. This includes cheeks, crow’s feet, as well as can help improve stretch-marks, “bat-wings”, and laxity around the knees. Basically, areas of fat pockets that have lost volume with ageing.

How Does Forma Work?

During the Forma treatment with Izabela

I was prepared for Forma to involve heat, pain, and more heat and pain, because I knew that radio frequency emits heat. This simple knowledge came from previous experience with Evoke and Morpheus8 that do require numbing cream and bravery. However, unlike these predecessors, Forma does not require numbing cream, and whilst there was heat, it was not painful at all! A conductor gel will be applied to the area being treated to allow the energy to pass through the top layer skin and that it does not over heat.

I would describe the feeling being similar to a hot-stone massage. Both Forma and Evoke are built similarly with the A.C.E technology, in that an in-built thermometer will regulate the temperature between 38-43 degrees Celsius. The difference is that Forma requires human intervention to apply manual pressure using the Forma wand. I prefer this, as it controls and tailors the treatment.

One side of your face is treated with the Forma wand for 20mins, followed by the other side for another 20mins.

How Many Treatments Are Required?

Dr David Jack Clinic recommends a course of 6 Forma treatments to see the best and most permanent results, lasting upto 2 years. However, even one treatment will give you a good lift and tightening around the jowl area and nasolabial lines for a week or so. Izabela told me that many of her clients come in for a 45min session of Forma, followed by a deep cleansing and brightening facial, or add-on some Mesotherapy. I would love to try that combination.

A course of 6 spaced out every week for 6 weeks would create a lasting impact thanks to the repetitive healing process and persistent increase of collagen formation in the treated area.

Results?

I would say that three weeks on after my single Forma treatment, with just my daily cleansing and hydrating regime, I can feel my skin is looking more taut. I know Izabela said I would see the effect for 7-10 days, but I definitely still feel my face looks less tired, especially around my left cheek area, where my nasolabial fold is more prominent. The crease is not as obvious. I can imagine 6 treatments could really rejuvenate the entire area of my cheeks and along my jaw line to tighten the jowls area.

Any Side-Effects or Concerns ?

When starting a new aesthetic treatment, it is recommended to discuss your skin concerns and treatment history with the Doctor or Therapist.

After your Forma treatment, you may have some redness due to the heat, however I found that it subsided in less than an hour, so essential there is essentially there is no downtime. In terms of pre-treatment concerns, again, this is non-invasive, so less risky than having dermal fillers.
